About the Journal
Advances in Community Services Research (ACSR) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal owned and published by Yayasan Pendidikan Bukhari Dwi Muslim, Indonesia. Established in 2023, the journal advances scholarly knowledge, community engagement, institutional collaboration, social innovation, and evidence-based community-service practices across the fields recognized in its Aims & Scope.
ACSR provides an international academic platform for original research, rigorous literature synthesis, and documented community-service initiatives addressing communication, management, economics, culture, education, law, social health, hospital management, religion in social contexts, community development, community partnerships, service-learning, public policy, and related interdisciplinary social-science developments.
The mission of ACSR is to promote rigorous, ethical, methodologically defensible, socially relevant, and practically meaningful scholarship that contributes to scientific understanding, academic debate, community empowerment, institutional cooperation, public policy, sustainable community development, and measurable improvements in community well-being.
ACSR welcomes high-quality contributions from developed, emerging, and developing economies, including local, national, regional, international, comparative, and cross-cultural studies or community-service initiatives. International or multi-country datasets are not mandatory when a manuscript makes a meaningful scholarly contribution or provides credible evidence of relevant community-service outcomes.
Journal Identity
The official journal title is Advances in Community Services Research, abbreviated as ACSR. The journal was established in 2023, holds the electronic International Standard Serial Number E-ISSN 2985-9778, and registers its scholarly articles under the DOI prefix 10.60079.

Scholarly & Community-Service Scope
ACSR covers community services, community engagement, community partnerships, service-learning, community empowerment, and relevant social-science scholarship. Its recognized scholarly fields include communication, management, economics, culture, education, law, social health, hospital management, religion in social contexts, and other interdisciplinary subjects expressly included in the journal's Aims & Scope.
Equal Main Scholarly Scope Principle: All scholarly fields expressly recognized in the current ACSR Aims & Scope constitute the journal's main scholarly scope and have equal standing in editorial assessment. Their order of presentation does not indicate disciplinary priority, editorial hierarchy, preferential treatment, or secondary status.
A Research Paper or Literature Review Paper may establish scope relevance through a substantive contribution to any one recognized ACSR field. A manuscript addressing communication, management, education, social health, law, culture, economics, or another recognized field does not need to introduce an unrelated disciplinary variable solely to establish scope eligibility.
The Community Partnerships and Impacts section specifically addresses community-service initiatives, collaborative engagement, community-based interventions, program implementation, service-learning, institutional partnerships, community development, program evaluation, and documented contributions to participating communities.
Manuscripts may examine individual recognized fields or meaningful relationships among several fields. All submissions must demonstrate a clear scholarly problem or community need, an appropriate conceptual or practical foundation, defensible research or implementation procedures, credible evidence, meaningful interpretation, and contributions consistent with their designated OJS section.
Scholarly & Community-Service Evaluation
ACSR evaluates manuscripts according to their relevance to the current Aims & Scope, correct editorial section, clarity of the research or community-service problem, originality, theoretical or conceptual foundation, methodological or implementation rigor, research integrity, quality of evidence, interpretation, documented outcomes, and substantive contribution.
Research contributions may be empirical, theoretical, conceptual, methodological, institutional, managerial, educational, legal, cultural, social, policy-oriented, or practically relevant. The nature and strength of the contribution must be consistent with the manuscript's stated objectives, actual research design, available evidence, analysis, and limitations.
ACSR welcomes quantitative, qualitative, mixed-method, experimental, archival, computational, case-based, comparative, and other defensible original-research approaches. It also welcomes rigorous literature reviews employing transparent and appropriately justified review methodologies. Methodological choices should be appropriate to the stated research or review objectives.
Community Service Articles are evaluated according to the relevance of community needs, engagement and partnership arrangements, implementation transparency, participant involvement, documented activities, evaluation procedures, demonstrated outcomes, sustainability considerations, and practical community contributions.
Scope eligibility alone does not guarantee acceptance. Manuscripts that lack meaningful scholarly or community-service contributions, fail essential methodological, implementation, or ethical requirements, present unsupported claims, or fall outside the journal's stated scope may be declined during editorial screening or following independent evaluation.
Accepted Manuscript Types & OJS Sections
ACSR maintains exactly two OJS editorial sections: Article and Community Partnerships and Impacts. Each section applies its designated manuscript template and peer-review assessment framework.
1. Article
The Article section accepts Research Paper and Literature Review Paper manuscripts only. Both types must demonstrate originality, methodological transparency, research integrity, critical engagement with relevant literature, and a meaningful scholarly contribution within the journal's recognized scope.
Research Paper: Presents original research using a defensible methodological design appropriate to the research problem. The manuscript should provide theoretical or conceptual grounding, transparent research procedures, credible evidence, substantive interpretation, and conclusions supported by the actual findings.
Literature Review Paper: Provides rigorous critical synthesis using an accurately identified and sufficiently transparent review approach. Eligible approaches may include narrative, integrative, systematic, scoping, structured, bibliometric, meta-analytical, theory-oriented, or other defensible review designs, provided that the procedures substantiate the reported methodology and the review develops meaningful scholarly insights.
Both Research Paper and Literature Review Paper manuscripts must follow the Advances in Research Master Manuscript Template and are assessed using the journal's standard scholarly review form.
2. Community Partnerships and Impacts
The Community Partnerships and Impacts section accepts Community Service Article manuscripts documenting community-service initiatives, community engagement, service-learning, institutional collaboration, community-based interventions, implementation activities, program evaluation, and credible community outcomes.
Community Service Article manuscripts must follow the New ACSR Template Submission and are evaluated using the dedicated Community Partnerships and Impacts Review Form, consisting of 11 assessment components.
Theoretical, conceptual, methodological, institutional, policy, and practical contributions may be developed within the relevant manuscript classification where supported by the actual research, review, or community-service design. Individual research techniques, datasets, software, statistical procedures, and review approaches do not constitute additional OJS sections or manuscript types.
Authors must prepare their submissions using the official template applicable to the selected section, provide a separate Title Page & Author Information Form, comply with the current manuscript requirements, and submit their files through the official ACSR Online Journal System.
Peer Review & Editorial Independence
ACSR applies double-anonymous peer review. Manuscripts first undergo editorial screening for relevance to the journal's Aims & Scope, correct OJS section, manuscript-type eligibility, scholarly or community-service contribution, originality, methodological or implementation suitability, research integrity, anonymization, and compliance with applicable submission requirements.
Manuscripts that pass editorial screening are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with appropriate subject, conceptual, theoretical, methodological, or community-service expertise. Author identities are not disclosed to reviewers, and reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors.
The normal scientific-editorial process is Submission → Editorial Screening → Independent Peer Review → Revision → Post-Revision Verification → Final Editorial Decision. Reviewers provide independent assessments and recommendations, while the responsible academic editor considers the complete editorial record before reaching or recommending the final decision.
Section-Specific Review: Research Paper and Literature Review Paper manuscripts in the Article section use the standard scholarly review form. Community Service Article manuscripts in the Community Partnerships and Impacts section use the dedicated review form containing 11 assessment components.
Reviewer recommendations are advisory and do not determine acceptance or rejection through simple voting. Scientific-editorial responsibility remains with the responsible academic editor and, where applicable, the Editor-in-Chief. Decisions are based on scholarly merit, reviewer evidence, research integrity, applicable editorial policies, and the adequacy of author responses and revisions.
Editorial Independence: Academic editorial decisions remain independent of publisher ownership, APC payment, ability to pay, waiver eligibility, reviewer recognition, sponsorship, advertising, financial interests, institutional relationships, or other non-scholarly considerations. Payment and administrative arrangements do not purchase acceptance, favorable peer review, editorial preference, or guaranteed publication.
The Editorial Team applies appropriate conflict-of-interest management, confidentiality protections, authorship and contributorship requirements, research and community-service integrity standards, ethical use and disclosure of Generative AI, citation-integrity procedures, and responsible post-publication practices to safeguard the permanent scholarly record.
Open Access, Copyright & Licensing
ACSR provides immediate Open Access to its published scholarly and community-service articles. Readers may access and read published content online without subscription charges or mandatory access payments.
Authors retain copyright in their original scholarly work, and published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
The CC BY 4.0 license permits lawful sharing, reproduction, distribution, and adaptation of licensed materials, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given, the license is identified, and changes are indicated where applicable. Third-party materials not covered by the article's license remain subject to their respective rights and permissions.
Author self-archiving and sharing of the Submitted Manuscript, Accepted Manuscript, and published Version of Record are governed by the applicable Copyright Notice and Archiving & Digital Preservation policy. Deposited versions must be accurately identified, respect confidentiality and third-party rights, and link to the published Version of Record when available.
Article Processing Charge
ACSR applies an Article Processing Charge only to manuscripts that have received a final scientific-editorial decision of acceptance and meet the applicable institutional-affiliation criteria.
For an accepted manuscript where at least one author is institutionally affiliated with an institution in Indonesia, the current standard ACSR APC is IDR 750,000 per accepted manuscript.
Where all authors are institutionally affiliated exclusively with institutions outside Indonesia, the manuscript receives a full APC waiver / IDR 0. APC and waiver eligibility are determined by institutional affiliation rather than nationality, citizenship, country of birth, residence, passport, or other personal characteristics.
No APC is payable before final editorial acceptance. The Editorial Office verifies APC or waiver status after acceptance. Where payment applies, the corresponding author receives an official ACSR invoice containing authorized payment instructions.
Reviewer Recognition: Eligible reviewers may receive a 10% discount on the applicable standard APC under the journal's reviewer-recognition arrangements. The discount is subject to administrative verification, applies only where an APC is otherwise payable, and does not influence independent manuscript evaluation or acceptance.
ACSR does not charge a mandatory submission fee, peer-review fee, page charge, color-figure charge, mandatory language-editing fee, or separate withdrawal fee. APC payment, discount eligibility, and waiver administration remain separate from academic editorial decision-making.
Previously issued official invoices, agreed payment terms, and legitimate historical financial-administration records are not changed retroactively merely because the current APC framework differs from an earlier arrangement. Authors should consult the full APC policy for applicable payment, waiver, reviewer-discount, withdrawal, refund, and payment-security requirements.
Publication Model
ACSR publishes one annual volume comprising exactly two regular numbered issues under a biannual publication schedule.
Issue No. 1 — September–February: The first regular issue follows the journal's established September–February publication period, which spans two calendar years.
Issue No. 2 — March–August: The second regular issue follows the journal's established March–August publication period.
Both the Article and Community Partnerships and Impacts sections operate within the same journal publication schedule. Maintaining two editorial sections does not create additional numbered issues, separate annual volumes, or different publication frequencies.
Historical Record Protection: Previously published volume and issue assignments, actual article publication dates, pagination, article metadata, bibliographic information, DOI records, citations, and other established scholarly records remain unchanged.
