Policies & Publication Ethics

Advances in Business & Industrial Marketing Research (ABIM), published by Yayasan Pendidikan Bukhari Dwi Muslim, follows responsible scholarly publishing practices informed by relevant principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This reference does not constitute a claim of COPE membership or certification. The sections below state the journal's core policies; operational author and reviewer instructions appear on their respective pages.

Current policies apply prospectively according to their policy-specific requirements and legitimate prior commitments. The continuous-publication commencement date of 1 September 2026 is not a universal effective date for every policy. Valid historical articles, issues, publication dates, DOI records, authorship information, editorial decisions, and agreed administrative arrangements are not retrospectively altered merely to match later policies.

Authorship, Contributorship and Originality

Authorship is limited to individuals who have made a substantial scholarly contribution to conception, design, acquisition, analysis, interpretation, or synthesis; participated in drafting or critical intellectual revision; approved the final version; and accepted accountability for the work. Ghost, guest, and gift authorship are not permitted. Institutional position, financial support, administrative participation, or supervision alone does not establish authorship.

Every submission must accurately identify contributions using CRediT. Author names, affiliations, corresponding-author details and ORCID, contributions, and applicable declarations belong in the separate Title Page & Author Information Form. ORCID is required for the corresponding author; other authors should provide identifiers where available. Contributions that do not meet authorship criteria may be acknowledged accurately and with appropriate consent.

Authors must confirm that the work is original, is not concurrently submitted elsewhere, properly attributes prior work, includes no fabricated or misleadingly manipulated research materials, and has been approved by all listed authors in the agreed order. Relevant overlapping work, earlier public versions, or prior dissemination must be disclosed. A separate mandatory originality letter is not normally required when the Title Page contains the required declarations.

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors require justification and written agreement from all affected authors. The responsible academic editor evaluates the evidence and integrity implications. Justified post-publication authorship changes require a transparent linked correction or other appropriate notice; author information must not be silently changed.

Plagiarism and Similarity Screening

ABIM prohibits plagiarism, unattributed copying, inappropriate text recycling, redundant publication, simultaneous submission, fabricated or unverifiable citations, citation manipulation, and misrepresentation of existing research. Text, ideas, data, images, tables, methods, instruments, and other borrowed material must be accurately attributed. Quotations must be clearly identified.

Similarity policy: ABIM applies a maximum overall similarity threshold of 15% as an editorial-screening requirement. Turnitin or another appropriate tool may support identification of material requiring examination.

A similarity percentage is not proof of plagiarism or a substitute for editorial judgment. Editors examine the source, extent, location, context, quotation, and attribution of matching passages. A score at or below the threshold does not excuse plagiarism or guarantee acceptance. Material concerns may result in clarification, revision, rejection, or appropriate post-publication action.

In-text citations, references, quotations, publication metadata, and DOI information must be accurate and verifiable, following APA 7th edition and the current For Authors requirements. Fabricated, fictitious, hallucinated, materially inaccurate, or unverifiable references are unacceptable.

Peer Review and Editorial Independence

ABIM recognizes Research Paper, Literature Review Paper, and Conceptual Paper. Manuscripts passing initial editorial screening normally undergo double-anonymous assessment by at least two independent reviewers. Authors submit a Blinded Manuscript separately from the Title Page. The normal scientific-editorial sequence is Submission → Editorial Screening → Independent Peer Review → Revision → Post-Revision Verification → Final Editorial Decision.

Reviewer recommendations—Accept Submission, Revisions Required, Resubmit for Review, or Decline Submission—are advisory. The responsible academic editor considers the manuscript, review evidence, author responses, revisions, and integrity concerns. Decisions are not determined by simple voting; divergent reports may require clarification or additional independent assessment.

All fields expressly recognized in the current Aims & Scope have equal standing. A substantive contribution to any recognized field may independently establish relevance. An additional marketing, industrial-marketing, or other disciplinary variable is not mandatory. Assessment must suit the actual research, review, or conceptual design. Empirical tests must not be imposed on a legitimate Conceptual Paper solely because it is non-empirical.

Editors and reviewers must disclose and manage material conflicts. Editors must not screen, select reviewers for, assess revisions of, or decide their own submissions or other materially conflicted manuscripts. An appropriate independent editor must be assigned. Reviewers must decline or consult the editor when independence cannot be assured and must protect confidentiality, avoid author identification or unauthorized direct contact, and not delegate reviews without authorization.

Scientific decisions must not be influenced by personal characteristics, publisher ownership, institutional relationships, financial interests, advertising, sponsorship, APC payment, or waiver eligibility. Advertising, where present, must be distinguishable from scholarly content and does not imply endorsement. Journal solicitations and promotional communications must be accurate and must not promise acceptance, favorable review, publication, or indexing in exchange for payment or participation.

APC administration begins only after final scientific-editorial acceptance. The standard APC is IDR 1,500,000 when at least one author has an Indonesian institutional affiliation; a full waiver / IDR 0 applies when all authors are institutionally affiliated exclusively outside Indonesia, subject to verification. Eligibility follows affiliation, not nationality. The official APC policy governs invoicing, payments, waivers, withdrawal administration, and refunds.

Post-acceptance administration, copyediting, proofreading, production, metadata verification, and Version-of-Record preparation support publication of an accepted manuscript. They do not restart ordinary peer review. Material scientific, integrity, ethical, legal, authorship, metadata, or other publication blockers must be referred to the responsible academic editor.

Research Ethics, Conflicts of Interest and Data

Authors must secure necessary ethics review, informed consent, organizational permissions, and data-use authorization. Research involving human participants, identifiable information, sensitive records, vulnerable populations, animals where relevant, or other protected materials must meet applicable requirements. Consent for publication is necessary where identifiable personal information or images may be disclosed. Approval, consent, permission, grant, and authorization claims must never be fabricated.

The separate Title Page must contain applicable identifying ethics information, funding sources, financial and non-financial competing interests, and an explicit no-conflict declaration when appropriate. The Blinded Manuscript must provide sufficient non-identifying information for scientific assessment. Where formal ethics approval was not required, authors should accurately explain the basis when requested.

Authors should retain supporting research records and provide sufficient information to assess procedures, evidence, analysis, synthesis, and conceptual arguments. Claimed systematic searches, PRISMA use, bibliometric analysis, meta-analysis, or other specialized procedures must have been genuinely conducted and documented. Bibliometric mapping alone does not replace scholarly interpretation.

The Title Page must include an accurate data availability statement identifying whether materials are openly available, available on reasonable request, included with the article, legitimately restricted, unavailable for a stated reason, or not applicable. Sharing data, code, instruments, and review documentation is encouraged where lawful and ethical; confidentiality, participant protection, contractual restrictions, and third-party rights remain binding.

Authors are responsible for permissions covering instruments, questionnaires, figures, photographs, tables, datasets, software outputs, copyrighted excerpts, and other protected material. Required permissions and acknowledgements must be accurate and supported when requested. Funding and acknowledgements that reveal identity should be kept out of the blinded review file.

Policy on Generative AI and Automated Tools

Permitted assistance: AI tools may support legitimate language, technical, analytical, or research activities when human authors verify the results, satisfy applicable reporting and ethical requirements, and retain responsibility. AI systems cannot be authors or co-authors.

Disclosure: Substantive generative-AI assistance beyond routine spelling, grammar, formatting, or straightforward language correction must be disclosed in the separate Title Page. Identify the tool or service and the purpose of its use. Describe affected activities and the nature of the assistance sufficiently to avoid misleading readers or editors.

Research methods: When AI materially contributes to research design, data collection, coding, analysis, evidence generation, or review methodology, include sufficient non-identifying methodological information in the Blinded Manuscript. Authors must report actual procedures and relevant limitations.

Accountability and restrictions: Authors must independently verify claims, calculations, interpretations, quotations, references, and DOI information. AI-generated or altered images must not be misrepresented as authentic empirical evidence. Explanatory diagrams must be accurate and appropriately disclosed. Confidential third-party information must not be uploaded to unauthorized or insecure systems. Editors and reviewers must protect confidential submissions and must not transfer independent scholarly judgment to AI.

PERLU VERIFIKASI: A dedicated AI Tools Usage Policy has been prepared for a proposed separate page. Its publication status and any additional implementation requirements must be confirmed before it is represented as an already operative policy. Until then, this section remains the canonical public statement of the AI requirements contained in ABIM's supplied publication-ethics source.

Complaints, Appeals and Allegations of Misconduct

ABIM considers evidence-based concerns about plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, authorship, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, false ethics or consent information, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, editorial or administrative conduct, and procedural fairness. A complaint or appeal should identify the submission or publication, explain the concern, and provide available supporting evidence.

The journal records and preliminarily assesses concerns, manages relevant conflicts, gathers evidence, and offers affected parties a reasonable opportunity to respond. It may request original records, data, permissions, approval documentation, or independent advice and, where appropriate, consult institutions, research-integrity offices, ethics committees, funders, or other relevant bodies under confidentiality safeguards.

An allegation does not establish misconduct. Outcomes depend on evidence, seriousness, publication stage, and procedural fairness. Responses may include clarification, revision, rejection, correction, an Expression of Concern, retraction, or another appropriate documented measure.

Editorial appeals must state substantive factual, procedural, ethical, or evidentiary grounds. A significant misunderstanding, unmanaged conflict, procedural error, or overlooked evidence may warrant review. Disagreement with a recommendation alone does not automatically justify reversal. A materially conflicted person must not independently determine an investigation's outcome.

Post-Publication Discussion, Corrections and Retractions

Readers and researchers may submit professional, constructive, evidence-based comments or concerns about published work. Where justified, ABIM may invite an author response, examine supporting documentation, consult specialists, or issue an editorial notice.

An otherwise reliable article with a material error that does not invalidate its principal findings may require a correction. Serious unresolved concerns or an ongoing investigation may require an Expression of Concern. Fundamentally unreliable findings, established serious misconduct, substantial plagiarism or duplicate publication, unethical research, or materially manipulated peer review may require retraction.

Notices must be transparent, identifiable, and linked to the original publication. The Version of Record must not be silently replaced or substantively altered to conceal changes. Valid historical publication dates, volume and issue assignments, DOI records, and other bibliographic information remain traceable.

Authors may formally request withdrawal before publication. They should not submit the manuscript elsewhere until withdrawal is confirmed. ABIM imposes no separate withdrawal fee; applicable payment and refund matters follow the APC policy. Withdrawal of an unpublished submission is distinct from post-publication correction or retraction.
